Square One is about a young shoe repair store owner named Scott Tengstun. When faced with an eviction notice because of unpaid rent, he is forced to live on the streets of New York, putting him back at "square one" in his life. The title "Square One" reflects both the protagonist's journey and my personal experience as a first-time filmmaker. Everyone has experienced the need to start over before, whether it be losing your high score in a game, an essay you forgot to save, or, unfortunately for Scott, having to restart his whole career. The film is intended to invoke self-reflection, gratitude, and inspiration through Scott's journey of resilience in overcoming bad luck, and determination in the pursuit of success.
